It was a game between the biggest sides in the German Bundesliga, the 2 teams that have won the championship in the last 7 seasons; it was Dortmund against Bayern at the Signa Iduna Park. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was on hand to score the only goal in the 11th minute. This was Dortmund’s first win over the Bavarians since 2014. With this win, Dortmund moved into 3rd place, 3 points behind 2nd placed Bayern. Leipzig continued the impressive start to the league with a (2-3) win over Bayer Levekusen at the Bay Arena. Leipzig moved 3 points clear at the top of the table. The question is; will Leipzig be another Leicester City???
In the Italian serie A, the city of Milan was on lock down as the 2 milan sides played the 1st Milan derby of the season. The game ended 2 goals apiece after Perisic netted an injury time leveller. Suso scored a brace for Milan either side of Candeva’s thumping finish. Roma retained 2nd place thanks to Milan’s draw after losing (2-1) at Atalanta. Perotti opened the scoring for Roma in the 40th minute before 2 goals from Caldara and Kessie turned the game on its head. Juventus moved 7 points clear at the top of the Serie A standings with a (3-0) drubbing of Pescara. Goals from Khedira, Mandzukic and Hernanes secured the win for the Bianconeri.
In the Spanish Primera Liga, the Madrid teams squared up at the Vincente Calderon. This turned out to be a drubbing for Atletico Madrid against a fired up Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo scored a hattrick in the (0-3) win and Madrid retains top spot with 30 points, 4 points clear of 2nd place Barcelona while Atletico currently occupies 6th position. Barcelona came unstuck at the Camp Nou against Malaga. A Barca side without Messi and Suarez proved impotent even with a 2 man advantage. Sevilla currently sits 3rd in the standings after a 2-3 victory over Deportivo at the Estadio Municipal de Riazor. Villarreal lost (1-0) at Bilbao to remain on 22 points and 4th place.
In the English Premier League, Jose Mourinho must wonder how to turn dominant displays at old Trafford to 3 points. 3 consecutive home games, 3 completely dominating performances but no wins in the last 3 home games. It was Arsenal at the theatre of dreams over the weekend. Mata drew 1st blood after the interval but Giroud scored an injury time leveller after receiving a delightful cross from fellow substitute Chamberlain. Chelsea continued their recent fantastic form with a (0-1). This made it 6 wins, 6 clean sheets and 17 goals in the last 6 games. Pep welcomed Yaya Toure back into the side and he was gracious as he scored 2 goals in the (1-2) win over Crystal Palace. Liverpool visited Southampton but played out a goalless draw. Harry Kane scored 2 late goals as Spurs came from a goal down to win (3-2) at the lane.
Finally in the French ligue 1, Nice stayed top of table 3 points clear of 2nd placed Monaco and PSG after a (0-1) victory at St Etienne. PSG played host to Nantes and 2 goals from Di Maria and Jese proved enough to secure a (2-0) victory. Monaco defeated Lorient (0-3) thanks to goals from Falcao, Lemar and Boschilia
