It was another home match for Man Utd, another good performance but yet another draw. Man Utd have now gone 4 straight home games without a win. What can be done and what should be done? Man Utd played host to West Ham hoping to redeem the wretched home form but West Ham struck 1st in the 90th second. Zlatan pulled a goal back and for all Man utd’s impressive play, they could not find a winner. Chelsea hosted Spurs in a London derby. Spurs took the lead through Eriksen but 2 goals from Pedro and Moses turned the game on its head giving Chelsea a 7th consecutive win. Arsenal hosted Bournemouth at the Emirates stadium. The game ended (3-1) with Sanchez (2) and Walcott with the goals. At the Turf moor, Burnley hosted Man City but lost (1-2). Burnley took the lead but 2 scrappy goals from Aguero ensured the citizens left with maximum points. Phillipo Coutinho was stretchered off at Anfield when Sunderland visited. Moyes promised to park a double decker bus and he delivered with Klopp commenting that was the greatest defensive play he has ever witnessed. However, Liverpool still found a way to a (2-0) win thanks to goals from Origi and Milner.
Real Madrid extended the lead over Barcelona to 6 points with a (2-1) win over Sporting Gijon. Ronaldo scored his 4th and 5th goal in the last 2 league games to give Real a (2-0) lead before Sporting pulled a goal back in the 35th minute. Barcelona struggled at Sociedad and had to rely on Messi yet again to secure a (1-1) draw after Sociedad had taken the lead. Barcelona currently trails Real Madrid by 6 points with the El classic on the horizon and are joint 2nd with Seville who defeated Valencia (2-1) over the weekend. Atletico returned to winning ways with a 0-3 win over Osasuna. Goals from Godin, Gamiero and Carrasco moved the Madrid team into 4th place.
Juventus lost the 3rd match of the season (1-3) at Genoa. Genoa scored 3 goals in the 1st 30 minutes of the game before Pjanic scored a consolation goal in the 82nd minute. Roma moved within 4 points of Juve with a (3-2) win over. 2 early goals from Dzeko sent the Romans on the way to victory. Ac Milan also won at (1-4) at Empoli to continue the good form and remain joint 2nd with Roma. On Monday, Napoli hosts Sassuolo while Inter Milan plays host to Fiorentina.
In the French Ligue 1, after 14 rounds, Nice currently leads the way with 33 points, 1 point ahead of joint 2nd Monaco and PSG. Nice played out a (1-1) draw at home to Bastia. Lyon hosted PSG and lost (1-2). 2 goals from Uruguayan forward Cavani were enough to give PSG the win. Monaco also defeated Marseille (4-0) to pile the pressure on Nice.
Finally, in the German Bundesliga, where Leipzig continued the brilliant start to the season with a (1-4) win over Freiburg and remain 3 points clear at the top. Bayern Munchen hosted Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz arena. Thiago gave the hosts the lead but was pegged back by a Calhanoglu leveller before former Dortmund defender scored a 53rd minute goal which proved to be the winner. Dortmund visited Frankfurt in a game watched by former Frankfurt and Nigerian star Austin Jay Jay Okocha. Aubameyang drew level after Huszti’s 46th minute opener before Seferovic secured the winner with a goal in the 79th minute to end the game (2-1)
Next weekend, it is the El Classico, arguably the biggest game in world football: Messi vs Ronaldo.
