In England this past weekend, the premier league took a break and it was time for the FA cup. The biggest upset was the (1-2) defeat of Liverpool by Wolves at Anfield. It seems Liverpool is beginning to run alone in recent games. Man Utd hosted Wigan at the Theatre Of Dreams in a match that saw Bastian make his 1st start in around 385 days. Wigan’s dreams at the theatre turned into a nightmare as Wigan was demolished (4-0). Arsenal turned on the style at St Mary’s stadium with a (0-5) annihilation of Southampton. Speedster Theo Walcott scored a hat trick after Danny Welbeck had given the gunners a 2 goal lead. Chelsea defeated Brentford (4-0) at the bridge. In other games, Man city defeated Crystal palace (0-3) and Spurs came from 2 goals down to defeat Wycombe wanderers (4-3) at the lane.

In the French Ligue 1, the battle at the top still remains very close but for the 1st time in 5 years, we have a championship race on our hands. PSG hosted free scoring Monaco at the Parc De Princes. The match ended (1-1) after both teams cancelled themselves tactically. Cavani gave PSG an 81st minute lead before Bernando Silva levelled in injury time. Nice defeated Guingamp (3-1) to stay level on points with Monaco at the top albeit with a worse goal difference.

In Germany, Dortmund continues to stutter and now lies 14 points off table topper Bayern Munchen. Dortmund took a 3rd minute lead at Mainz but could not build on it and the home team scored in the 83rd minute to level the game.  Bayern, on the other hand, visited Bremen and secured a (1-2) victory thanks to goals from Robben and Alaba.

The Italian Serie A continues to see Juventus lead the pace 4 points clear of 2nd placed Roma having played a game less. Juve visited Sassuolo and goals from Higuain and Khedira proved enough for the old lady to secure a (0-2) win. Inter hosted Pescara hoping to close the gap on Napoli and did so with a (3-0) win. Roma lost at (3-2) at Sampdoria. Sampdoria had to recover from conceding an early goal and turned the game on its head. Napoli hosted Palermo but could only play out a (1-1) draw. Ac Milan currently sits 7th on the table after losing at Udinese (2-1)

In the Spanish La liga, Real Madrid moved 4 points clear at the top of the standings having played a game less. Real defeated Sociedad (3-0) with Ronaldo scoring the 2nd goal. Barca visited Betis and suffered a horrific refereeing decision. The ref ruled out a goal even though the ball was a whole 2 yards past the goal line. Betis took the lead in the 75th minute but Suarez hit back in the 90th minute to level the match (1-1). Sevilla lost (3-1) at espanyol while Atletico Madrid could only play a goalless draw at Alaves

Have a great footballing week!!!
