The biggest match of the weekend in the English Premier League was at Stamford Bridge when the 2 biggest London clubs squared up. Arsenal visited Stamford Bridge hoping to complete a league double over the blues. This, however, proved a dream as Chelsea put Wenger’s men to the sword with a (3-1) win. Chelsea led (3-0) before a late consolation goal by Giroud. Chelsea currently leads the standings with 59 points, 9 points clear of Spurs who defeated Middlesbrough 1-0. Outgoing champions Leicester city hosted Man Utd. The game ended (0-3) in favour of the visitors with goals coming from Zlatan, Mkhitaryan, and Mata. Zlatan became the oldest player to score 15 Epl goals. Hull City hosted Liverpool and built on the midweek performance at Old Trafford to defeat Liverpool (2-0). Swansea city visited Man City and thought a draw was on the cards after Sigurdsson levelled Jesus’ 11th minute opener but the Jesus was on hand to score a 90th minute winner for the citizens. The match between Celta Vigo and Real Madrid was postponed due to stadium damage at Celta Vigo. This however allowed the chasing pack to close in on Real Madrid albeit having played 2 games more. Barcelona hosted Athletic Bilbao at the Camp Nou and secured the 13th league win of the season with a (3-0) win. Argentine legend scored one of the goals. Atletico Madrid also hosted and won against Leganes (2-0). Atletico hero, Fernando Torres scored both goals. Sevilla and Villarreal played out a goalless draw at the Sanchez Ramon Pizjuan. At the Allianz arena, it was Bayern against Schalke 0-4. The game ended 1-1 after Naldo’s 13th minute goal cancelled out Lewandoski’s 9th minute opener. Bayern should have won the game but failed to capitalize on the superior performance.  It was 2nd vs 4th at the Signa Iduna Park. Dortmund hosted Leipzig and won by a lone goal thanks to Aubameyang’s 35th minute effort.  Leverkusen continues to struggle and currently occupy 9th spot after a (1-0) loss to Hamburg. Monaco continues to show impressive form in the French ligue 1 and moved 3 points clear at the summit.  2nd placed Nice visited the principality level on points with Monaco. Monaco’s firepower proved too much as 3 goals from Germain and Falcao (2) secured a (3-0) win for the hosts. PSG visited Dijon needing a win to retain pressure on Monaco. The game ended (1-3) with goals coming from Lucas, Thiago Silva, and Cavani. Finally, in the Italian Serie A, Juventus hosted in-form Inter Milan in the Derby d’Italia. The match was settled by Cuadrado’s stunner in the 45th minute. Juventus stayed 6 points clear of Napoli having played one game less. Napoli visited Bologna and delivered a performance and result of note with a (1-7) destruction of the hosts. Both Hamsik and Mertens got hat tricks with Insigne scoring the 7th goals. Lazio moved ahead of Inter into 4th place after a (2-6) destruction of Pescara. Parolo scored 4 goals for the visitors. Milan continues to struggle and lost 0-1 to Sampdoria to stay 8th in the standings. Roma hosts Fiorentina in midweek needing a win to move back into 2nd place.
