We start this week with a trip to France where As Monaco annihilated Nancy by (6-0) with Falcao scoring a brace. Falcao has now scored 4 goals in his last 2 games for Monaco. PSG also won over the weekend with a (4-0) win over Rennes to stay level on points with Monaco albeit with a worse goal difference. Edison Cavani scored one of the goals before going off injured. The gap between 1st place Nice and Monaco reduced to 3 points after Nice suffered a (0-1) defeat at Caen. Lyon defeated Bastia (2-1) with Lacazette scoring one of the goals.
In the English Premier League, normal service returned as the Red devils defeated Swansea (1-3) in Cardiff. Zlatan (2) and Pogba scored the goals to move the team into 6th place, 8 points adrift of 1st place Liverpool. Liverpool hosted Watford and hit them for 6. Sadio Mane, Firmino, and Coutinho were all on the scoresheet in a (6-1) win as Liverpool continued the impressive start to the season. Antonio Conte is the toast of London now. Chelsea turned on the style and was in full throttle to annihilate Everton (5-0) at the bridge. Costa and Hazard have regained form in recent matches and are blazing defenders away. With this result, Chelsea has won 5 EPL games in a row scoring 16 goals and conceding none in the process. Arsenal hosted Spurs in the North London Derby and the game ended (1-1) and Spurs are winless in 8 matches in all competitions. Man City dominated and bossed Boro at the Etihad. Aguero gave the city the lead from a wonderful cross from De Bruyne and City kept on pressing and dominating but could find the goal and in the 90th minute, De Roon was on hand to score for the visitors to level the game at (1-1).
In the Italian Serie A, Inter Milan returned to winning ways over the weekend. This was Inter’s 1st match since the sacking of De Boer. 3 late goals from Icardi (2) and Perisic gave Nerazurri a (3-0) win over Crotone. Palermo hosted Milan and lost at home (1-2). Former Liverpool player Suso was among the goals for Milan. Chievo hosted Juventus and lost (1-2) to the reigning champions. Mario Mandzukic and Pjanic scored the 2 goals for Juventus. Roma remains 2nd on the table, 4 points behind league leaders Juventus after a (3-0) win over Bologna. Former Chelsea striker, Salah, scored all 3 goals. Napoli played out a (1-1) draw against Napoli. Hamsik opened the scoring for Napoli in the 52nd minute but 2 minutes later, Keita leveled for the visitors.
Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways over the weekend with a (2-5) win over Hamburger. This high scoring game coincided with the return of Aubameyang from suspension and he scored 4 goals with Dembele adding the other. This win propelled Dortmund to 5th on the table with 18 points. Bayern came unstuck at the Allianz arena when Hoffenheim visited. Hoffenheim took an early lead in the 16th minute before an own goal from Zuber rescued a point for Bayern Munchen to end the game (1-1). Leverkusen hosted Darmstadt and secured a (3-2) win.
Finally, in the Spanish La Liga, Sevilla hosted Barcelona at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez. Vitolo gave the hosts a 15th-minute lead before the little genius turned the game on its head. Leo Messi leveled scored in the 43rd minute before he made an assist for Luis Suarez to score the winner in the 61st minute. Real Madrid welcomed Leganes to the Santiago Bernabeu and secured a (3-0) win. 2 goals from Bale and a 3rd from Morata was enough for Madrid to secure its place at the top of the standings as we head into the international break. Atletico Madrid visited Real Sociedad needing a win to stay in 3rd place heading into the international break. Sociedad, however, had other plans and ran out (2-0) winners with goals from Vela and Jose. This loss allowed Villarreal to move into 3rd place after defeating Real Betis (2-0)
We round up away from Football this week by giving a special mention to Andy Murray who will be crowned World Number 1 tennis player today. Having played second fiddle to the likes of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal, the Briton is finally World Number 1.
