Pep Guardiola must be pondering the next tactic to deploy in his Man City team. A team that started the season conquering all teams along the way is now one struggling for consecutive wins. Man City hosted Spurs in the biggest game of the weekend. City drew 1st blood with 2 quick fire 2nd half goals from Sane n De  Bruyne. Both benefitted from a rare mistake by Lloris. Spurs, however, hit back with goals from Dele Alli and Son to finish the game 2 goals a piece. The red side of Manchester made it 2 draws in succession after playing out a (1-1) draw at stoke and in process Wayne Rooney became all time Man United record goal scorer with his 250th strike. In the last 2 games, Man Utd has levelled scores in the last few minutes. You must wonder how long before luck runs out. Liverpool came from 2 goals down against Swansea at Anfield before eventually losing (2-3). Chelsea continues the march towards the title with a (2-0) win over Hull. Chelsea remains top of the table and on course to reclaim the premier league title.

In the Spanish Primera Liga, Real Madrid returned to winning ways with a (2-1) win over Malaga. Captain Sergio Ramos scored the 2 goals for the Madrid team.  Sevilla remained in 2nd place, 1 point adrift of 1st place Real Madrid albeit having played a game more, with a (3-4) over Osasuna. Eibar hosted Barcelona over the weekend and lost (0-4). Goals from MSN and Denis Suarez secured the win for the Catalans. Athletic Bilbao played host to Atletico Madrid. The match ended (2-2) and reported Man Utd target Griezmann rescued a point for Atletico with an 80th minute goal.

The German Bundesliga resumed from the winter break. Top of the table Bayern Munchen visited Freiburg and ran away (1-2) winners. Haberer gave the hosts a 4th minute lead but 2 goals from Lewandoski in the 35th and 90th minute turned the game on its head. Dortmund visited Bremen and secured a (1-2) win. Goals from Schurrle and Piszczek proved enough for Dortmund to move into 4th place. Hertha surrendered 4th position to Dortmund after suffering a (3-1) defeat at the Bay Arena.

In the French Ligue 1, Monaco pulled 2 points clear at the top of the table with a (4-0) destruction of Lorient. Boschilia and Germain scored a brace each for the principality club. Monaco has also scored 64 goals in 21 games, 23 goals more than the next highest scorers. PSG visited Nantes and secured a (0-2) victory. Uruguayan striker, Cavani scored his 19th and 20th league goals of the campaign.

Finally, in the Italian Serie A, Juventus defeated Lazio (2-0) over the weekend. Goals from Higuain and Dybala kept the old lady top of the table with 1 point albeit having played a game less. Inter Milan continue the recent resurgence with a (0-1) win at Palermo thanks to Joao Mario. This was Inter’s 8th consecutive win in all competitions and currently, sit 5th. Ac Milan hosted Napoli and lost (1-2). Insigne and Callejon score 2 goals in the opening 10 minutes. A 35th minute goal kucka turned out to be a consolation goal. AS Roma remain 2nd, 3 points clear of 3rd placed Napoli, after hosting and defeating Cagliari (1-0). Dzeko’s 55th minute goal proved to be enough for the capital club.

We pay special tribute to Wayne Rooney who surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals for Man Utd with his 250th goal. The Man Utd striker scored all sorts of goals from tap-ins to belters and most notably the overhead kick against Man City.

Have a good week ahead
